如今冰塊偶爾在高峰下側的水池凝結﹝這小水池是早期登山者祭拜山神的地方,映照峰景,分外瑰麗﹞。

東南亞第一高峰─神山,其花崗岩峰群─南峰、聖約翰峰、驢耳峰、喬治王峰、醜姐妹峰及主峰羅氏峰,矗立雲霄高達4095.2公尺。

攀登神山是一項嚴峻的跋涉,必須具備體力與耐力,如果備足了充沛的體力及二、三天山上行程,便可以觀賞沿著山徑出現的珍禽異獸、岩石、土壤、自然美景以及最古老的奇花異草。
攀登神山,除了享受登山樂趣之外,更因其山峰呈高原之姿,且土質異於國內百岳,故而先了解其形成地質再談攀登感受。

小沙最流連之處:廣闊的灰花崗岩山坡。此山坡的花崗岩乃由多種礦物質組成,各種礦物質對風化和腐蝕的阻力不同,其表面產生了粗糙呈黑、白和灰色的斑點。

根據資料,神山的地質始自900萬年前,其花崗岩核心在地殼下面凝固,在100多萬年前這花崗岩群峰便突破地殼,經過侵蝕,沖走千萬尺厚的泥沙、碎石而暴露出來。 在冰河時代,約一萬至十萬年前,高峰由冰雪封住,有一主要冰河向北流下羅氏壑谷。其它小冰河則向東、南、西流下,逐漸磨滑山峰高原,周圍的鋸齒型山峰群則在冰雪表面之上,不受影響。

在一萬年前,冰雪融化了,冰河的跡象可以在山峰高原見到,此處佈滿不及二公分的溝痕,較深的溝痕是冰河內的石塊留下割裂的跡象。冰河時代過後的風化磨平這些痕跡,正如羅氏峰受嚴寒震裂的磐石塊和花崗岩上各類石堆和石堤,有些石層脫落成石板,這是日晒膨脹、夜間嚴寒收縮所致。

山峰高原景色萬分壯麗,尤其令人生畏且崢嶸的羅氏壑谷的懸崖,直瀉深至1250公尺,其形成之裂口,把神山山巒分開為東、西兩個主脈。小沙奮登其峰頂,360度展望,不襟熱淚盈眶…
